We had over 200 people in attendance at the Shakedown friday night, which really overwhelmed any of our expectations. Thank you so much to Kevin and Tiffany Hargis, Ashley Hammonds, and Matt Wiseman for spending the last 2 months working on this event…we are already in the planning stages for our next event, and will start releasing details soon!

Southside Jazz Shakedown, February 19th

The Hamilton County Young Republicans are hosting the Southside Jazz Shakedown. We have two Jazz bands lined up, delicious finger food, an opportunity to hear from GOP congressional and gubernatorial candidates…and all for FREE. We will have a cash bar and soft drinks.

Please invite your friends to be a part of this night…everyone is invited. This is not just an event for hardcore Republicans, this is a fun night with a chance to meet the men and women running for office.

Come out, have fun, be an informed voter!

January YR Meeting – The Plan

It’s 2010, and we are ready to make the YRs as effective as we can this election year. Opportunities to get involved will abound with so many local, state, and national elections taking place.

This meeting is going to be a great opportunity for those of you who have not been very involved in the YRs or are looking to give input in to the club. I want to review what we have done in the past and have a conversation about where we are headed this year.

We will be meeting on January 28th, 6:30pm at Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy (outside of Hamilton Place Mall). Invite a friend and we will see you out there!

October Meeting with Tommy Crangle, District 3 Candidate

Our October meeting will be on Thursday, October 29th 6:30pm at Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy (outside of Hamilton Place Mall)

So far this year we have heard from 3 candidates for Zach Wamp’s district 3 congressional seat: Robin Smith (as TNGOP Chair, before she declared), Sheriff Tim Gobble, and Chuck Fleischmann. We continue with Mr Crangle, who you can read more about on his website.

Please plan on coming out, invite your friends. This is a unique, intimate setting to talk with and hear from these candidate. Don’t miss out!

Shakedown is Postponed

I regret that the events committee has had to postpone the Southside Jazz Shakedown due to funds not being available, which we were not aware of until last minute. This was not something we decided lightly…personally, I believed in this event. What a great opportunity it would have been for the party and the Young Republicans! We will be putting this event on, but will have to wait until February or March.

I am overwhelmed with the positive response I’ve received from the party with their support, including a $200 check from State Representative Richard Floyd, and other verbal commitments of financial support for our next event.

We will keep on truckin’ and are already setting up our next event and the County Christmas party (hosted by the YRs). Thank you so much for your support in all of this…we have a lot to do to be ready for next year’s important elections!

October 9th – Southside Jazz Shakedown!

Join the Hamilton County Young Republicans on Friday, October 9th at 7pm for the Southside Jazz Shakedown at the Loose Cannon Gallery. $20 gets you in the door, to enjoy a night of food, drinks, and Jazz. We will also be featuring the GOP candidates for district 3 Congress, with plenty of chances to get to know the candidates individually and see where they stand.

But don’t think this will be your usually, stuffy political event…we will have Jazz music all night from Kenny Cook and Smooth Flight Jazz, a cash bar, finger food, and plenty to do.

For our August meeting our speaker will be Chuck Fleischman, Congressional candidate for District 3 in the upcoming GOP primary.

Our meeting is Aug 27th, 6:30pm at Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy, outside of Hamilton Place Mall. As always, bring a friend, get to know the candidate, and fellowship with your fellow Young Republicans. Bring a friend and we will see you out there!

June Community Outreach Recap

A big “Thank You” to everyone that came out for the first Community Service project of 2009 for the HCYRs. We cleaned up glass, beer bottles, and bags of trash from two of our city’s parks/playgrounds. It was a good, productive time and I can’t wait for our next one!

Here is June’s YR update for the County’s GOP newsletter:

Fellow Republicans,

2009 so far has been a very exciting year for the Young Republicans. We have seen our meeting attendance grow to 20-30 active young people, with new members every month. We have added a monthly Social Hour that has been a great outreach to people that normally wouldn’t get involved in politics. We have started a Community Outreach program, beginning by cleaning up parks in the heart of our city. It has been a busy, productive year for the YRs, and we look forward to doing even more going forward into next year’s elections.

With money we are raising over the year we will assist with phone banking, canvasing, and advertising to help strong, principled republicans get elected in Hamilton County. We have a strong, detailed plan to continue to grow our party’s foundation and prepare the leaders of tomorrow. Our meetings are open to all of Hamilton County so please join us to catch the excitement going on with the future of the Republican party!

Our next Social Hour is June 18th, 6:45pm, where we will meet at the Front Gate of AT&T Field to watch the Chattanooga Lookouts. On the 25th we will have our regular monthly meeting, location TBA. Sheriff Tim Gobble – May Young Republican Meeting

Join the Hamilton County Young Republicans for their May Meeting. Our speaker this month is Bradley County Sheriff, and GOP candidate for 3rd district congress (Zach Wamp’s seat) Tim Gobble. This is an open, public event. We encourage non-members to join us for great time with food, drinks, socializing, and politics.

NOTE: This is a new location for our meetings! The Terminal is on the corner of Market St and 14th st, right by Main. They have ample parking in the back of the building.
